Chapter 12/12 – We made it

How would you describe the year 2017? I could say that I’ve had a relatively good year. It wasn’t as good as Cardi B’s but it certainly wasn’t bad. Having taken some L’s here and there, I have really learnt how strong I truly am. I feel like it’s been a bit of a funny year, things have happened in ways which I didn’t expect it to.

When I started the year, I sat down and made a list of goals for the year, I accomplished most of these things but some of them are still working progresses. I haven’t been too hard on myself about achieving these goals because often enough expectations and realities can differ.

I am definitely looking forward to 2018 and I hope it’s my best year to date. I feel like 2017 has been the year of growth. I’ve grown so much as a person, stepped out of my comfort zones and learnt lessons along the way. There’s a saying that ‘when God wants you to grow, He makes you uncomfortable’ – all those feelings of a ‘bad year’ is all part of your growth. You have overcome the worst and that has made you all the more stronger.

Just remember that without a bad year, how would you truly appreciate what a good year is? To whoever is reading this, just know that it’s minor setbacks but major comebacks ALWAYS. I cannot reiterate it enough. To all of my Yoruba brothers and sisters reading this right now, there’s a saying which goes like ‘aiye nko pe meji’ (this translates to: there is only one life to live). Let that be your constant mood, because once you’ve affirmed it and believe it- you will always bounce back from every L you may take, regardless of the size.

I do not necessarily know when you are reading this post- I hope it’s some time in December. So, technically you will still have some time to turn this year around. For the remainder of this year, focus on ending 2017 with a bang, just so that your 2018 can begin with a bigger bang. If I could give you one piece of advice, I would recommend just sitting down alone for an hour or so and just self evaluate. Think about your year; what went well? What went wrong? How could you improve for next year? And what do you want to achieve in 2018? As humans we often get so lost in the negative, that we forget the good things that have also happened.

Before I leave, I just want to say stop worrying- things will work out eventually. I hope that you have a wonderful holiday season, stay blessed and be merry. I pray that 2018 is the best year of your life to date.

More blessings, more life, more excellence, more wisdom, more love, more money and just more of everything that could possibly be good in your life.
